Foundations in Aviation: Awareness and Introductory Courses

The Native American Aviation Association’s (NAAA) Pillar 1 Initiative, “Foundations in Aviation: Awareness and Introductory Courses,” is designed to introduce Tribal students, young professionals, and educators to aviation careers and related STEM concepts. The program is structured into quarterly themes: Introduction to Aviation Careers focuses on exposing students to diverse aviation pathways through role models and career mapping; STEM in Aviation explores the science of flight with hands-on activities like building gliders and coding drones; Aviation Technology showcases modern tools, including drones, flight simulations, and navigation basics; and Heritage and Aviation connects Native cultural traditions to innovation, highlighting contributions of Native pioneers in aerospace. The program also incorporates year-round mentorship, take-home resources, and scholarship opportunities to inspire and prepare participants for future aviation careers while honoring their heritage.
